That's SO Funny!

Fourth grade is a time for developing a sense of humor. Students often struggle with joking with peers and trying to be funny. This can sometimes come across as sassy or mean. Today we talked about things that are so funny vs things that are not so funny. Please talk about this at home.  Reinforce that teasing can be fun if everyone involved is happy, smiling, and laughing.  If someone changes their body language, stops laughing, leaves the group then they do not think it is funny and it is not a joke.   Here is our list of things that show it is SO funny or NOT so funny:

That's SO Funny:
  • Unexpected jokes
  • Everyone is involved
  • Not hurtful
  • Friendly tone
  • Laughing
  • Smiling
  • Not threatening
  • Friendly

That's NOT so Funny:
  • Mean jokes
  • Not everyone thinks it is funny
  • Hurtful or mean
  • Unfriendly tone
  • No laughing
  • Unfriendly body language
  • Don't know when to stop
  • Threatening
  • To show off
There is a pilot flying in a plane and he drops an apple, an orange, and a granade.  He lands the plane and goes to see the damage.

He comes across a boy crying.  "What is wrong?" asks the pilot. "An apple fell from the sky and killed my dog," sobbed the boy.  "I'm so sorry!" said the pilot.

He continues walking and comes across a girl crying.   "What is wrong?" asks the pilot. "An orange fell from the sky and killed my cat," sobbed the girl. "I'm so sorry!" said the pilot.

He continues walking and comes across a man laughing hysterically.  "What happened?" asked the pilot.  "I farted and blew up the building behind me!" laughed the man.

That's SO funny!
