Crazy New Math

We are adding and subtracting large numbers with an emphesis on understanding place value. This means new math and new strategies. When we were young we learned how to add using the compact method. This method is memorizing the steps and does not always include understanding the process or number sense. In this unit we will use new strategies that help students understand number sense and adding. We have been using number lines and to hop using convienent numbers, numbers students are comfortable with. Here are some tutorials by our kids.
