Associative Property for Multiplication

Last week we began discussing the associative property for multiplication.  Understanding facts and factors (the numbers that make the facts of multiplication) students can use this information to divide fluently.  We have many students using their fingers to count up and figure out their basic multiplication facts.  This is something they should know as a fourth grader.  We practice these each morning for 5-10 minutes; please be sure you are practicing them at home as well.  They should know their facts 0-12.

Understanding 2 X 4 = 8 will help students understand if a number divides by 8 it also divided by 2 and 4.  This law of association (the associative property) will be practiced this week during math.  If you would like homework for your student remember to check out the online links.
