This week we started our unit on large multiplication. We will work on multiplying 2-digit by 2-digit numbers. We have worked on estimating to check for reasonableness of answers as well as rectangle and expanded form. Next we will move onto all-partials, and compact (traditional) multiplication.
Keep working on those math facts. Mastery and fluency in the facts increases accuracy with multiple digit multiplication. Students should also be able to quickly and accurately multiply numbers by 10s. This skill of multiplying by 10 important as students multiply 2-digit and 3-digit numbers. Progressing from rectangle to expanded form and all-partials allows students to understand and apply their knowledge of number sense to multiplication.
The unit test will be April 29th.
