As we near the end of the month it is important to be sure your student is reading at home. In fourth grade we ask for 400 minutes throughout the month. They can read anything they are interested in. A good rule of thumb is if they are missing more than 10 words per 100 the book it too challenging. Calendars are due on October 1st.
Reading aloud is also a great activity for kids, even at this level. In honor of Banned Book Week here is a list of some books you may want to read alone (to model reading) or with your child. I know I have some favorites that made the list.
