Cans for Conservation

Monday we had a presentation from Manhattan Sunset Zoo on ferrets.  The students learned facts about the animal and were able to pet one from the zoo.

We are doing this as part of the Cans for Conservation program.  The objectives of this program are to turn recycling into a habit, provide an opportunity for students to act globally, and give students a chance to learn more about animals.  Together, West Elementary and Sunset Zoo can make a difference in the lives of animals around the world.

We have set a goal for each student to collect at least one and a half pounds of aluminum (approximately 48 cans) from now until Monday, April 7th.  Your child can bring the clean, crushed aluminum cans to your school throughout the week.  Sunset Zoo will pick up the aluminum on Mondays at the school until the end of the program.  Cans can be left at school by the shed (not beside the dumpster) or dropped off at Howie's in Manhattan for West Elementary.  Thank you for your support.
