Subtraction Fun

Today we played a game to practice place value and subtraction. The students worked in pairs to subtract numbers in the thousands place. 1. Roll 4 (or more) dice. Create a number. Write it down. 2. Roll 4 (or more) dice a second time. Create a second number. Write it down. 3. Subtract the numbers. Today we used expanded form to work on borrowing. This practice reinforces how many are being borrowed in a column. We also estimated each number to check for reasonableness in our answers. Have fun playing at home. We will have a test over adding and subtracting larger numbers on Monday, December 16th.
