We have been learning the concepts behind multiplication. Students used the break apart method to understand place value in multiplication. Check out my video clip to see the process we are using to show the concpet of multiplying larger numbers.
In another unit we will move from the array to using expanded form. Students will then use all-partials method before moving to compact (standard) multiplication. Teaching conceptual mathematics with procedural mathematics allows students to understand the processes they are using and increases their ability to compute accurately.
