We are starting our unit on addition and subtraction of large numbers. In this unit we will be doing some pretty wild and crazy things. The students will post videos to get you through the process though :) Here is an online site to practice adding larger numbers.
The idea of this method is for students to use a number line and the numbers they are comfortable with to add and subtract large numbers. Here is an example:
455+230=?
Start at 455 and count forward 100, 200, and then 30. You know 455, 555, 655, 680. This method allows students to see how the place value is changing in numbers. After Thanksgiving Break we will dive into some new and wonderful ways to add and subtract larger numbers. It's that "New Math"!
